Welcome to my fundraising page for BARCStoberfest 2018! BARCS is the largest shelter in Maryland, taking in a staggering 11,000 homeless dogs and cats, and 1,000 exotic, farm and wildlife animals each year. It's quite the operation and they need our help to save lives. When you give to BARCS, you can count of your donation supporting animal care and positive programs. They pride themselves on responsible spending and low overhead, with $.96 from every $1 going directly to the animals they serve.

I began volunteering with BARCS in late 2015. Both of my cats and my dog are BARCS alumni. I want to take this time to share Havoc's story. Havoc (pictured above) came to BARCS in June 2017 when his family didn't want him anymore. He came to BARCS with a knot on his head, missing front tooth and a bad hip. They quickly discovered that his injuries were most likely from a fall as a puppy that were left untreated. While in BARCS care, Havoc received sugrery in August 2017 to fix his hip. This required him to enter a foster home to recooperate. We discovered Havoc because his foster mom, Anna, answered my request for a dog that was "cat friendly" and showed me a photo of him snuggling with her cat Georgie. We knew we had to meet him! When we adopted Havoc in November 2017 he was considered a "long term" shelter dog as most of BARCS animals come out of the shelter very quickly. We adopted Havoc knowing that he would need some physical therapy exercises and patience to help him build strength in his hip. Today Havoc is happy and healthy. His hip is noticeably stronger but he does need to take it easy at times and have limited playtime due to some bone spurs at the site of his surgery. I am so thankful for the care BARCS provided for him and all I can do to repay them is to continue to volunteer at the shelter and to help raise money for other animals, like Havoc, that may require surgery.
